Engine

Just because the air conditioning or
heater is out in your vehicle doesn’t mean that the entire unit needs to replace. Often, the problem is a simple fix (swapping out a fan motor, replacing a fuse, etc).

BELTS & HOSES

Faulty belts and hoses are one of the cheapest fixes that, if left unchecked, can have terrible consequences. A faulty belt or hose can cause you to lose steering, lose your car’s electronics, or cause your engine to overheat. Each car has a different recommended interval for replacing belts and hoses. Replacing a few belts pales in comparison to losing an entire engine.

COMPUTER DIAGNOSTICS

Over the past two decades, car engine designs have changed dramatically. So often, people come into the shop asking for a tune-up. Because the engine is controlled by your car’s internal computer, there is little to physically “tune-up.” Whether you can’t get that check-engine light to turn off or you notice your car is acting sluggish, bring it in and we’ll run full diagnostics for you.

COOLING SYSTEM REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE SERVICES

Without a functional radiator, our cars and trucks wouldn’t go a half-mile without overheating. If you see your engine temperature gauge start creeping up, bring your vehicle in. You might simply be low on radiator fluid. Maybe you need a radiator flush to remove rust and corrosive elements hindering your vehicle’s cooling systems. Maybe there’s a leak in your radiator or hoses that needs fixing. The point is that your car can be overheating for any number of these reasons. If you see the gauge creeping up or, unfortunately, see steam coming out from under the hood, get your car to our shop and we’ll make sure you don’t overheat your engine beyond repair.

EMISSION REPAIR

The State of Colorado has some of the strictest emissions requirements in the entire country. New vehicles are exempt from emissions tests for 7 years. Any vehicle older than that is subject to the strict requirements. Your car can fail an emissions test simply for having the “Check Engine” light on during an inspection. If you fail emissions, or suspect you will, bring your vehicle in and we’ll do what is necessary to help you pass.

ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC & EVALUATION SERVICES

Your “Check Engine” light could mean nothing. Maybe it’s been on since you bought the
car. Or maybe it’s your car’s engine warning you that something’s out of place. Whatever the case, our qualified technicians will diagnose your engine’s codes and make the proper adjustments.

ENGINE OVERHAUL AND REPLACEMENT

Whether you lost your engine or just want to gain more horsepower by swapping it out, our mechanics will get your car back up and running and onto the road.

FILTER REPLACEMENT

Your vehicle has a number of filters in place to stop particulates from contaminating the rest of the system. When these filters get clogged, that can reduce performance or accelerate contamination of the lines. Whether it is changing out your oil filter or swapping in a new air conditioning filter, your car will run better when its filters are clean.

FLEET SERVICES

Have a fleet of vehicles? We are always accepting fleet contracts! Many businesses around town trust us to get their fleet up and running again when they experience breakdowns. We have an excellent reputation in the community and would love to work with you!

FLUID LEAK EVALUATION

Not much is as annoying as seeing the signs of a leak under your car and not knowing where it is coming from. Don’t keep scratching your head. Bring your vehicle in and let us diagnose the source of the leak before it does costly damage to your vehicle.

FUEL PUMP

The fuel pump, as the name implies, is the motor on your vehicle that transfers gasoline or diesel from the tank to the engine. Like all motors, eventually these fuel pumps break and need to be replaced. If you notice your car is guzzling more fuel than normal or your vehicle is performing noticeably faster or more sluggish than normal, this might be a sign that your fuel pump is on its way out. Bring your vehicle in and have our mechanics look at it before it stops working entirely and you need to call a tow truck.

FUEL SYSTEM CLEANING

Over time, parts of your fuel system will become clogged with dirt and debris. A clogged fuel system can lead to damaged engine parts, which will become noticeable through decreased performance and fuel economy.

HEAD AND HEAD GASKET REPLACEMENT

The head gasket seals in the internal combustion process and also keeps coolant and oil from mixing together as the two fluids travel from the engine block to the cylinder head. The most common culprit for head gasket failure is engine overheating. This excess heat causes metals to expand and prevents the gasket from sealing the system. The gaskets themselves are inexpensive but swapping them out is a complicated and lengthy process that our technicians are fully trained in.

MUFFLERS AND EXHAUST SYSTEM REPAIR

Notice a new engine sound or an increase in vibration? You might have a damaged exhaust
system. It could be a simple leak or something as serious as a failing catalytic converter. If you notice your fuel efficiency is below average, bring the vehicle in and let us inspect it. If left unchecked, exhaust damage can cause further engine troubles.

OIL CHANGES: CONVENTIONAL OIL AND SYNTHETIC OIL

Regularly scheduled oil changes are essential to extending the life of your engine. Here at Bighorn Automotive, you can either drop your car off or have us change your oil while you wait.

PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE SERVICES

Every vehicle that comes through our bay doors receives a preventative maintenance inspection. There are a number of preventive repairs and adjustments that will prolong the life of your vehicle, and when we notice preventive maintenance that needs to be done, we will always bring it to your attention.

STARTERS

There’s nothing worse than the feeling of turning the key and hearing complete silence. There are a number of potential causes behind a vehicle not starting. Over time, your vehicle’s starter will need to be replaced.

TIMING BELTS AND TIMING CHAINS

Your engine’s timing belt, or timing chain, is responsible for ensuring that your engine’s valves open and close at the proper time, synced to each cylinder’s intake and exhaust strokes. Over time, the teeth on this belt will begin to wear and can mess with your engine’s timing, affecting both performance and fuel efficiency.

TUNE-UP SERVICES

Regular engine tune-ups will bring more power and fuel efficiency to your vehicle. Whether you need a manual tune-up for an older vehicle or need us to run electronic diagnostics to get your engine working to its potential, our technicians have you covered.

WATER PUMP

The water pump is an integral part of your vehicle’s coolant system and uses an impeller to circulate water and coolant through the system to prevent the engine from overheating. Eventually, the components in your water pump will fail. If you see your engine temperature starting to rise, bring your vehicle in and let us diagnose the exact problem.
